Science Weekly Magazine introduces and reinforces science and math concepts via a differentiated (grade-level specific) approach within each weekly teaching series.  Fundamental concepts and basic facts are highlighted within real-world, age appropriate context; presented with a full–color, easy to manage, weekly “worksheet-style” curriculum for grades K-6.  Each series supports the educator with separate Teaching Notes for each Level.

Science Weekly Magazine is a regular component of the approved K-6 (elementary) curriculum in school districts and home education centers across the United States; and is emerging as a global resource with ground-breaking distribution in China during the 2010-2011 school year.

The Publisher:               

Dr. Claude Mayberry, Jr. exemplifies what a distinguished educator and an entrepreneur should be.  He gives of himself and his resources to support many organizations.  He participates and encourages special interest activities with communities that further the education of underserved children.  He listens and responds to the concerns of others.  He has established relationships with educators, students, parents and communities across the country.  Dr. Mayberry is highly respected and demonstrates sensitivity to all individuals who are of another race, culture, religion, sex or handicapped.

His accomplishments include:  Teacher of Year – Indiana Junior Chamber of Commerce; first black Dean of Students University of Pennsylvania; first black provost – Colgate University.  He was instrumental in a political campaign that led to the election of America’s first black mayor – Gary Indiana. He brought over $1 million in minority graduate scholarships at Columbia University Teachers College; organized the first American student exchange program with the University of Zambia and Colgate University; the only black-owned publisher who presently has nationally distributed core-classroom products for kindergarten through grade six; served as director of postsecondary Institutional Aid Program (former Title III Program of the 1965 Education Act), with an annual budget of $350 million; developed for the United States Department Education a departmental program to address the issues of shortages in teachers of mathematics and science,  the national crisis in mathematics, science, and computer illiteracy.  He has authored books, journalistic articles, monographs, and other professional publications based upon scholarly research and professional experience.

Dr. Mayberry is founder of Science Weekly International and CAM Publishing Group, Inc., the publisher of the nationally multi-award winning publication Science Weekly.  His recent honors and memberships include:  inducted into the American Educational Publishers Hall of Fame, recipient of Purdue University Distinguished Alumni Science Achievement Award, inducted into Who’s Who Among Black Entrepreneurs.  He is a member of the board of trustees at Columbia University Teachers College, Reading is Fundamental, National Commission For African American Education, and is currently President of the National Council on Educating Black Children.

Dr. Mayberry received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and Physics and Master of Arts degree in teaching mathematics from Purdue University. He received Master of Arts degrees in school administration and mathematics education, and a Doctorate degree in mathematics from Columbia University Teachers College. 


Science Weekly Writing Team: 

Debbie Craig has been teaching sixth grade for eleven years. She has a Master’s in Middle Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from George Mason University and a Reading Specialist certification from Regent University. Debbie has been writing issues of Science Weekly since 2005. She resides in Northern Virginia with her husband, three children, dog, cat, and four hens. When she is not teaching or writing, she enjoys being a baseball fan, reading, spending time with family, and the beach.

Wynne Crombie earned degrees in elementary education and sociology from the University of Washington, Seattle.  She taught  5th grade overseas in Italy (Aviano AFB) and Berlin with the Department of Defense School System.  After meeting her husband in Berlin….he was with the U.S. Air Force…they came back to the States. In 1993 Wynne earned a master’s degree in Adult Education at Northern Illinois University. She is currently teaching ESL at Harper College outside Chicago. The Crombies have raised four daughters and have three granddaughters.

Rhonda Lucas Donald is a freelance writer living in Petersburg, Virginia. She has written more than a dozen books for children and teachers and won awards for articles and stories appearing in Ranger Rick and Your Big Backyard. Among her books are Deep in the Desert, Life on Other Planets, and a series of books about the environment published by Scholastic. Rhonda specializes in writing science curriculum, and especially likes to write about animals and space. She fell in love with science as a kid, and read every dinosaur book in school library. Rhonda shares her home with husband Bruce, dogs Maggie and Lily, and Darwin and Huxley, her very dignified cats. Her website is http://www.browntabby.com.

Ellen Javernick enjoys researching and sharing information about the fascinating world around her.  A kindergarten teacher in Loveland, Colorado, Ellen also teaches through the articles and books she writes.  Young readers can find her writing in materials they use in their classrooms, as well as in books they find in libraries or book stores.  The Birthday Pet and What If Everybody Did That?, her two most recent releases, are published by Marshall Cavendish. She gets lots of her best ideas from her 10 grandchildren.

Lyn Sirota is the author of 17 children's books [with an 18th on the way] and many
articles and poems in popular children's magazines. She has been working with Science Weekly for several years and has written issues about Birds, Hot Springs, Whales, Poisonous Animals and Rats. She is an active member of her local and national Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Lyn lives in central New Jersey with her husband, children and three furry rescues.
